Action Items Review

Minutes

R4 Status and release plans

  • SIG Release:

    • On track for Feb 14

    • Confident on the following stories:

      • IMS part of the O-RAN contribution

      • FLuxCD story

      • platform improvements

    • Need to follow up on the workload identities (security) story to see if this will get in on time

    • UI improvements are awaiting review

    • Release notes under development

  • SIG Auto:

    • On track for Feb 14

    • some issues with the PackageRevision have been triaged and resolved which were blocking the O-RAN IMS contribution

    • Workload identity story has some failing tests which will hopefully be fixed soon

    • Platform improvements complete

    • UI improvements are awaiting review

    • FluxCD is complete

  • LFN would like to move the release date forward to help with the planning around it

    • We can release on Feb 14, but we should move the announcement date to Feb 18 to ensure better engagement

  • Continue to aim for Feb 14 date

  • WG6 has been working on a “Nephio and GenAI whitepaper” which can be released at the same time as the R4 release

    • document is under review with a few comments to clean up - Sunny will review

SIG Updates

SIG Architecture:

  • Discussion on the O-RAN story has been progressing

  • Presentation on the WG activities around assurance with a discussion on MVP activities

  • Discussion on GenAI (later topic)

  • R5 planning discussions are ongoing, which will be finalized in end of February

Sig Automation:

  • See .2025-01-29 SIG-2 Agenda & Minutes

  • Increasing contributions and participation in the SIG automation community

  • Still no vice chair - volunteers from the community needed

    • Can we have more than one “vice-chair”?

    • Document clearly the roles and responsibilities so that it is clear what the “ask” is - time commitment etc.

SIG release:

  • Preparing release machinery for R4 - including automated build for the O-RAN O2IMS operator

  • If we end up having the end-to-end tests ready we will incorporate that into the release process

SIG Security:

  • workload identity is the highest priority

  • Preparing a demo environment to help with pull request analysis

  • Security scanning - how can we operationalise this?

  • Security blueprint - towards specific stacks (OAI, Free5gc etc)

    • creating requirements

Nephio and GenAI - Hackathon discussion

There is an opportunity to hold a hackathon in the Bay area to leverage the enthusiasm in that area with universities etc

  • looking for a group of volunteers to generate ideas on this - proposed weekly meeting to analyze ideas for user stories to drive at the hackathon

  • Need to engage with university students, startups etc on this to bring people onboard

  • Idea is to have some output into nephio-experimental for future release input

  • Define a date for the activity

    • Would be good to do this in the Spring, while university students are active - potentially in March / April / May

  • Volunteers: Phil Porras , balaji varadaraju , Avinash Bhat

  • Options for logistics (in-person, virtual, etc) need to be proposed

    • Need to ensure Casey Cain is engaged to line up with other LFN event plans

LFN Events

LFN proposal is for virtual events per project in 2025 - no in-person developer events are being planned

No options to colocate with another conference this year

  • ONE summit is co-located with Kubecon / CloudNativeCon

Communities who want to do “in-person” events need to:

  • have a venue for the event

  • have a plan for remote attendance

Discussions on these topics (hackathons etc) take place in the TAC - next one is on Feb 5th 7am PT

TSC chair / vice-chair position is that a well-planned and scoped in-place event would be desirable in 2025 to continue the momentum from previous events

Sana Tariq and Ciaran Johnston will sync with Casey Cain on potential virtual / hybrid events

  • No labels
